Place des Arts is undergoing a
transformation…
Place des Arts is in the midst of a great transformation. Work is
underway on two major sites on the Place des Arts plaza: the
construction of a concert hall, L'Adresse
symphonique, and the remodelling of the Grand Foyer culturel in the Hall des Pas
perdus.
Concert Hall
Groupe Ovation, the consortium selected for the construction of the
concert hall, has begun work on the east side of the Esplanade, at
the corner of de Maisonneuve Boulevard and Saint-Urbain Street. A
fence has been erected in order to form a boundary around the site.
Section P1 of the Place des Arts parking lot is currently closed
due to this work in progress and will remain closed throughout the
entire construction of the concert hall.
Grand Foyer culturel
Remodelling work for the
Grand Foyer culturel culturel has also begun. During
construction, public traffic flow and access to performance halls
and stores will continue to remain unobstructed in the Hall des Pas
perdus. New pedestrian traffic lanes will be set up as
needed.
Despite ongoing construction work in and around Place des Arts, all
performance halls, as well as the outdoor esplanade, box office,
shops, and corridors leading to the Metro and to Complexe
Desjardins are open. The work will in no way affect performances
taking place at Place des Arts. Follow the signs!
Access to Place des Arts
The main entrance, located at 175 Sainte-Catherine Street, remains
open to pedestrians even though Sainte-Catherine Street is closed
to motor traffic from Bleury Street to Saint-Dominique Street. The
underground corridor linking Place des Arts to Complexe Desjardins
to remains open to pedestrians. Place des Arts can also be reached
via the Place-des-Arts Metro corridor, one entrance of which is
located at the corner of Jeanne-Mance Street and de Maisonneuve
Boulevard.
Metro access: Place-des-Arts station,
Green line.
Using neighbouring streets
St. Urbain Street
Construction work on the Quartier des spectacles will continue this
autumn and will notably affect St. Urbain Street, between de
Maisonneuve Boulevard and St. Catherine Street. While this
work—which is scheduled to begin at the end of
September—is taking place, Place des Arts will do all it can
to offer easy access to its indoor parking lot and its performance
halls. The work will take place over the course of a few
months.
St. Laurent Boulevard
The intersection of St. Catherine Street and St. Laurent Boulevard
will be completely closed beginning on September 13. This closure
is required to allow for the reconstruction of underground
infrastructures. This work, carried out as part of the construction
of the Quartier des spectacles, is scheduled to be completed in
December 2010.
Vehicular traffic will be prohibited on St. Laurent Boulevard,
between René-Lévesque and de Maisonneuve boulevards.
Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs in order to use
the detour route through the area.
To make travelling easier, Jeanne-Mance Street, which is currently
closed to traffic, will be reopened to northbound traffic; this
will be in effect as soon as the intersection of St. Catherine
Street and St. Laurent Boulevard is closed.
To see a map of the obstructions and traffic detours in the Place
des Arts sector, please visit the Quartier
international de Montréal website.
Parking
The entrances and exits of the Place des Arts parking lot, on
Saint-Urbain Street and on Jeanne-Mance Street, remain open.
If the parking lot is full, you can make your way to the Complexe
Desjardins parking lot, or the parking lot at Complexe Guy-Favreau,
both of whose entrances are on Saint-Urbain Street.
Access to the Parking Lot on September 2, 2010
Please note that due to the Orchestre symphonique de
Montréal’s concert at the Parterre of the Quartier des
spectacles, St. Urbain Street will be closed between Sherbrooke
Street and de Montigny Street as of 6 pm on Thursday, September 2.
Place des Arts’ parking lot can be accessed from de Montigny
