Montreal High Lights Festival - Misia

From
To

Caliente!, Opening Show

She’s a pioneer, a free spirit. Her artistic trajectory was formed by a lifetime of musical, poetic, and geographic journeys... Mísia’s vision is the inescapable result of an artist who grew up influenced by two cultures: the retiring Portuguese and bourgeois character of her father, and the Spanish, flamboyantly artistic temperaments of her grandmother and mother.   Ruas, her most recent album and the one she’ll perform at the MONTREAL HIGH LIGHTS Festival, testifies to this inherent duality of the artist. She presents a diptych, in two parts: Lisboarium, a poetic and subjective vision of the Portuguese capital via her musical and poetic choices, and Tourists, the very portrait of 20 years of the journeys that formed her musical sensibility. Fados, Marchas de Lisboa, morna, reinterpretations of pieces from every musical aesthetic, including the most unexpected—Nine Inch Nails, Joy Division, Camaron de la Isla, Barbara and Dalida, among others—blended to fascinating effect... for let us remember, if there is an infinite variety of musical genres, there is ultimately only one song, that of the soul. And it is universal.
