PAGANINI & SALVATORE ACCARDO
SIR ROGER NORRINGTON, conductor
SALVATORE ACCARDO, violin
HAYDN, Symphony No.49 ("La Passione")
PAGANINI, Violin Concerto No.4
ELGAR, Variations Enigma
Especially well-known for his performances of Bach and Paganini, Salvatore Accardo is recognized as the most important Italian violinist of the second half of the twentieth century. Here he interprets the Fourth Concerto by Paganini, a composer who fascinated his contemporaries thanks to a technique people believed to be the manifestation of a supernatural power.
Both his meticulous work on the authenticity of scores and the sounds produced by the orchestras he conducts make Sir Roger Norrington one of the most prominent of conductors. Closely associated with the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra and with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, here he also conducts the OSM in the expressive and almost pre-romantic Symphony “La passione” by Haydn and the enchanting Enigma Variations by his compatriot Edward Elgar.
