BRAHMS
Symphony No. 2
Recognized as one of the principal engines of musical activity in the Quebec City area, the Orchestre symphonique de Québec celebrated its hundredth anniversary in 2002, making it the oldest orchestral ensemble in Canada. In the company of its artistic director, Yoav Talmi, the OSQ is presenting a program featuring Brahms’s Second Symphony, idyllic and pastoral, the graciousness of some of whose melodies flows from the charms of southern Austria’s countryside, the source of inspiration for this symphony. Young pianist Lise de la Salle, “a talent in a million” (Gramophone magazine), will be performing Saint-Saëns’s Second Concerto, the French composer’s best known.
