DESCRIPTION
Officially inaugurated in 1967 and named after the founder of
Montreal, Paul de Chomedy, Sieur de Maisonneuve,
Théâtre Maisonneuve is a modern-day rendition of a
classical Italian theatre. With a seating capacity of 1,458,
Théâtre Maisonneuve is the ideal setting for variety
shows, particularly comedy performances which often remain on its
bill for several weeks. The hall is also a perfect venue for
performances by smaller companies and soloists, for musical
comedies, and for film presentations. Les Grands Ballets Canadiens,
for the contemporary part of their series, the McGill Chamber
Orchestra, Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal
and Société Pro Musica are all permanent residents of
Théâtre Maisonneuve. The Danses en Saison
series, created by the producers of the Festival international de
nouvelle danse and I Musici, recently adopted this hall.

It is located along the backstage corridors on the 5th floor. The

approximately 30 people.
Informal conference hall
Located at the entrance of the corbeille (dress circle),
this area was designed in November 2001 as a venue for informal
discussions or pre-show conferences. It has a capacity of
approximately 100 people.
Jean-Gascon Foyer
Renovated in November 2002, the foyer was named after Jean Gascon
(1921-1988) an internationally renowned actor. With its splendid
view of Place des Arts’ outdoor quadrangle, the foyer is
decorated with a piece of artwork – a curtain consisting of
thousands of small acrylic blocks held together by suspended steel
wires. The view created when the sun’s rays hit the curtain
is breathtaking.
Behind the bar, a sculpture by Charles Daudelin (1920-2001) adds
beauty to the landscape of steel cubes and concrete. In front of
the bar, a sculpture of Jorge Donn (1947-1992) reminds spectators
of the brilliant dancer. The foyer has a capacity of over 800
people standing; it can seat 350 for banquets.
Mezzanine Foyer
Overlooking the Jean-Gascon Foyer, the Mezzanine Foyer on the
corbeille level (dress circle) can be used as a reception
area. It has a capacity of 250 people standing; it can seat up to
150 people for conference or 125 people for banquets.
