DESCRIPTION
In 1992, in conjunction with the construction of the
Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal on its plaza,
Place des Arts officially inaugurated its fifth hall, aptly named
the Cinquième Salle. Located between the foyer of the
museum and Place des Arts' main entrance hall, this versatile
theatre plays host to a variety of vocal, musical, dance and
dramatic performances (particularly by younger artists), as well as
various special conferences.
The Cinquième Salle features a highly original design,
offering a range of possible configurations and a seating capacity
of 300-417, depending on the seat arrangement. Equipped with an
innovative system of mobile platforms, the hall's configuration may
be modified to best suit the type of performance or event and the
number of seats required.
Elizabethan, Italian, face to face or thrust stage, the
Cinquième Salle is the ideal space for several theatrical
styles and moods, and as such, is a most important newest addition
to the Place des Arts complex.
